With the confidence to serve and strive for the success of the AICUF unit the staff and students conducted outreach programmes in various institutions like Gerizim – a home for intellectually challenged children, Bosco Mane – a center for street children, ShishuBhavan – a home for the differently abled, and Snehadaan – a centre that cares for children infected with HIV / AIDS and Little Sisters of The Poor – an old age home.
The overwhelming joy and fond memories each of us experienced from visiting these institutions can never be expressed in words. It gives us a deep sense of satisfaction when we know we have touched somebody’s life and has sure made a difference in our lives. A group of AICUFers were a part of the Anna Dhana programme every week at St Anthony’s Friary Church by serving food for the poor and hungry.
Today, mankind is under the grip of fear and alarming agony of AIDS. As December 1st is observed as ‘World AIDS Day’ the AICUF unit organized an assembly to create awareness among the students. Badges were put on sale and each staff and student sported a badge to show their solidarity in fighting against this deadly disease. Rs 10.125/- was collected and handed over to St Joseph’s health center, JeevanDhara Trust, Chittor.
The Karnataka State AICUF unit organized a 3 day State level meet with the theme of “Unit to Ignite New Hope” on the 8th, 9th and 10th of December 2012 at Mangalore. 14 students along with 2 staff members attended the AICUF conference. This experience helped the students participated in ‘Exodus’ an intercollegiate gospel fest organized by St Joseph’s college of Arts and Science and they won prizes in Western Acoustics, Pick & Speak & Photography.
The interclass carols singing competition was conducted in December and the response was heartwarming. Ii PCME was crowed ‘Best Caroles’.
The much awaited joyous event of the year and first of its kind was ‘MARANATHA’ 2012 – Come Lord Jesus, Come, an intercollegiate gospel fest. The even began with a formal inauguration. Our respected dignitaries for the day were Dr. Elizabeth Leelavathi Manasseh, Director of Resource Mobilisation and Ministry, The Bible Society of India and our guest of honor Dr. Sr. Elizabeth.
Various exciting events like Bible Quiz, Creative Writing, Pick & Speak, Dumb Charades, Western Acoustics, Choreography and Mime was organized. The participation from the various colleges was overwhelming. The ‘Overall Championship trophy’ was bagged by St Joseph’s College of Arts and Science and Mount Carmel P.U College bagged the Runners up titlie.
