Student President Report

Student President Report

A very good morning to one and all present here.
It feels like yesterday when I walked through the gates of Jyoti Nivas filled with enthusiasm and anxiety and realizing that two years of life’s memories will be here in this campus and today here I stand extremely privileged to present the student union report for the academic year 2014-15. It was the happiest moment in my life when I got elected as the college president.

This year began with the union election and the II PUC students from all the three streams were allowed to contest for the post of their choice. After a tough competition the results were announced by our beloved Principal, I Sampriya Sukumar was selected as the President, Sarah Marie Devotta as the Vice President, Madhuri S Rao as the Cultural Secretary, Krithika Rajan as the Treasurer and Nagenetra as the Sports Secretary.

At this point I would like to extend my gratitude to all my 2nd Year friends it’s only because of your love and support I’m standing here today. I thank each one of you in believing in our potential and having faith in us that we will shoulder this responsibility well.

Then we had the investiture ceremony where we were sworn into office, taking the oath that we will execute our duties to the best of our abilities, adhering to the values upheld by the college and living up to the motto “Let your light shine”.

Slowly we started getting to know each other and the first event we had to organize was freshie queen. Among the 150 freshers who auditioned, showcased their talents the best 15 were picked.

The theme we had decided for freshie Queen was “Halloween” we really worked hard to make the entire auditorium look like a scary house with lights, and freaky sound effects and a few vampire walking around to scare the audience.

I really thank the art committee and commerce union for helping us with the entire stage set up. The contestants had to choose any popular horror movie character and portray their talent. We had Rj Nathan and Rj Michelle from Radio Indigo 91.9 to judge this event. After a spectacular performance by all the contestants Ulfath Joad of I PCMB ‘B’ was crowned the Freshie Queen and Pavitra of I SEBA ‘A’ was crowned the freshie princess. After our first success we had to start working for the ultimate and the most awaited event organized by the union the 2-day inter collegiate cultural fest “Artemis 2014”. Now we started working closely with the union advisors. The five of us worked together we split our work, we designed posters, brochures, certificates etc.

This year we had Vijaya Suriya, the young popular budding artist of the Sandalwood Industry as our chief guest. As we worked for Artemis we had to also plan for teacher’s day, each class came up with entertaining programs like dance, music drama. For all the efforts put in by the teachers throughout the year this was a small gift on our behalf to put a smile on each of their faces making it a special day for them. Then we again got back to work for Artemis.

This year we had 27 events. The highlights were a performance featuring DJ Zaeden on day 1, we had the bands ‘One Night Stand’ playing for us on day 2. Finally we had one day to go, all set, all five of us feeling extremely excited at the same time scared. But we had got really close, we had fun at times we fought, but at the end of the 2 days we realized we still loved each other and all that we did was to make these two days the most memorable one for every Jyoti….. Every step we took was under the guidance of our two experienced lovely student advisors.

Dear Savitha and Zaina Ma’am, the embodiment of grace and elegance. They possess kind hearts and were always patient and calm enough to understand us in any and every circumstance. They always stood as our guiding strength to face any challenge thrown at us.

Dear teachers we are truly blessed to have such wonderful advisors like you. On both days of Artemis everything moved smoothly we had a lot of participation and St. Joseph’s PU College emerged as the overall winners. All five of us along with teachers were more than happy that Artemis turned out to be a huge success and all our efforts paid off. I thank all the college teams for participating in various inter-collegiate fests in a competitive spirit and for winning several prizes for our college.

Children’s day was one of the best events of this year when we saw our teachers shake a leg to the latest pop numbers This years Christmas celebration was also very exciting.

Our inter-college sports meet Sphyghmus of Jr’s 2014 was also a huge success with a number of colleges participating in various events. Our College emerged the overall winners.

I take this opportunity to thank the Management, our beloved Principal Sr. Louisa Sebastian, Dear Sr. your kind heart and your heartfelt smile gives us all the motivation to take up any challenge. Dear teachers you are the guiding light who have moulded me into what I am today. You have given me the courage to stand tall. I also thank our non-teaching staff for rendering their support in their own special way. I thank all the parents for being with us all through our journey.

I also extend my gratitude to my fellow union members the cheerful classy, Sarah, the bubbly artistic Madhuri, the supportive chocolate loving dancer Krithika, the sporty diginified Naganethra. Thank you guys for making my life in JNC much more colourful. I thank god for choosing me to be a part of this wonderful JNC family which has molded me into a better person today with many memorable experiences which will last for a life time.

I conclude with our college motto
“Let your light shine”
Thank you one and all.
