    • 01 Jul 2025

The Annual Leadership Camp is conducted by Jyoti Nivas Pre-University College, every year to give valuable insights, experiences and knowledge to its elected student representatives. The camp helps the students to build a good rapport with each other for smooth functioning of the Student Body and helps them understand the responsibilities that come along with a post of leadership.
This year, the leadership camp was conducted at Don Bosco, Ajjanahalli, Magadi by Father Maria Anand, Don Bosco Fathers’ Society, Mr. Tom Thomson, our resource person for that day, Father Dilip and Father Uday.
The journey of the students to the facility began early with the buses leaving the college premises at 7:30 a.m. Post a long and scenic journey, the students reached the venue at 10:00 a.m, a clean, large and comfortable establishment. Refreshments and a homely breakfast was provided to the students to keep them energised for the following activities planned. Students were given access to dormitories for the safekeeping of their belongings. After a short period of rest, the students proceeded to their first session of the day with much enthusiasm and spirit.
The first session, an outdoor one, began at 11:00 a.m, conducted in the garden. The session began on a friendly note, with an icebreaker for the students to meet and get comfortable with one another. Following the icebreaker, there was an indoor session , where the students were split into groups of twenty and further paired up for the activity of ascertaining their individual non-negotiable qualities in order to understand themselves better. The first session came to an end at half-past noon with a short break and refreshments. For the second session, the same groups continue outdoors, seated under the boughs of nature. The session started with an activity to understand the aspects of communication that are vital possessions of a leader, after which a progressive game of chinese whisper was played by all the six groups, wherein the students had to use actions instead of words to convey their messages. The students took away key points about how communication matters in any professional setting. The latter half of the session consisted of an activity where the students had to build the model of a bridge in collaboration with another team, albeit with restricted communication. The second session then wound up and the students dispersed for a homely and nutritious lunch. Post break, the students gathered once again in Don Bosco’s garden for their final session of the day. The students played a game that summed up everything they learnt throughout the day. The game revealed that the tapestry of leadership is intricately woven with the threads of trust, risk-taking and decision making and taught the students valuable lessons about winning in life and lifting others around you as well, to victory. To draw the curtains on the leadership camp for the year, the students embarked on a picturesque trek led by Father Maria Anand. The trek gave the students a chance to make memories that will last them a lifetime. After the much awaited trek was finally completed, the students and student advisors made their departure from the venue, back to college. The Leadership Camp was an eye-opening and enriching experience for the students that not only pushed them beyond the limits of their comfort zone but also helped them discover their strength and areas for growth. The camp achieved its objectives of helping the students develop leadership qualities, teamwork skills, and personal confidence through hands-on activities and challenges.
