Managed by the Society of Sisters of St. Joseph of Tarbes
In 1843, six young peasant girls in the village of Tarbes, France, were divinely inspired to lead a life of contemplation and prayer, leading to the formation of the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Tarbes.
In 1882, the Sisters arrived in Bangalore and commenced their work at Bowring Hospital. Recognizing the pressing need for women's education, they established Jyoti Nivas College in 1966. Since its inception, the institution has remained committed to providing holistic education. Functioning independently since 2001, Jyoti Nivas Pre-University College continues this legacy with a mission centered on communion, service, and excellence, aiming to nurture emotionally balanced, spiritually oriented, morally upright, socially committed, and intellectually enlightened youth.
Our success is attributed to a dedicated academic approach complemented by a diverse range of co-curricular and extracurricular activities, empowering students to confidently shape their futures. The institution welcomes students from all sections of society, fostering an environment of inclusivity and growth.
Over the past 182 years, the unwavering faith, tireless dedication, and selfless spirit of the Sisters—along with the abiding presence of God—have propelled our society’s expansion, leaving a lasting global impact.
From humble beginnings in the fields of Tarbes, France, to achieving excellence in Bangalore, India, our journey has been truly inspiring.
